It’s the downtown music institution’s first affiliate partnership.

The Grammy Museum announced its first-ever affiliate on Thursday, Feb. 6, a date that Bob Marley’s legion of fans will recognize as the seminal singer 69th birthday.

It makes it the perfect date, then, to cut the ribbon on the downtown music hub’s new partnership with the in Kingston, Jamaica.

“As a Grammy Museum affiliate, the Bob Marley Museum will have access to Grammy Museum exhibitions, educational initiatives, research programs, internship opportunities, collaborative marketing and promotions, technical support for interactive displays and more,” read the announcement.

The iconic musician, who passed away in 1981, is remembered at his eponymous museum through displays, photos, equipment, personal items, memorabilia, and audio visual explorations of his resounding impact on the world of reggae and the artists he influenced.

Located on the site of Mr. Marley’s home, the Bob Marley Museum is a Jamaican national trust site.

The new partnership bodes of more to come in 2014. More affiliates will be announced, says the Grammy Museum, in the coming months.
