Cardi B has declared her high regards for Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel.
The Bronx rapper took to social media on Friday (Nov 3) to reveal that the incarcerated entertainer is indeed her “favorite artist of all time.”
“I can cry 😢 Vybz Kartel is my favorite artist of all time,” Cardi B shared with her 12.6M followers on Instagram.
“Me and my friends teenagehood was all about dancing to Vybz Kartel !!! #FreeVybz” she added.
The “Kodak Yellow” rapper made the announcement while sharing a screenshot of a post, which was uploaded to Vybz Kartel’s official Instagram account.
“KILL DEM ALL BABEZ!! BODAK YELLOW,” the caption read on Kartel’s post, referring to Cardi B’s smash hit single.
It’s no secret that the 25-year old rapper is a huge fan of the “Worl Boss” deejay as she has professed her admiration for Vybz Kartel numerous times on social media.
Cardi B is one of the year’s more surprising success stories.
She started off as an ex-stripper on the VH1 reality show “Love & Hip-Hop” before debuting “Bodak Yellow,” which became a No. 1 smash.
In February 2017, she signed her first major label record deal with Atlantic Records.
Since the start of the year, she has been dating fellow American rapper Offset, of the southern Hip Hop group, Migos. The couple became engaged on October 27, after Offset proposed to Cardi B at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, during the Power 99 Powerhouse concert.
Vybz Kartel has been recognized as one of Dancehall’s most prolific and skilled lyricists credited with further popularizing the Jamaican music.
His music has achieved cultural ubiquity across the Caribbean, including “Ramping Shop” (2009), “Summer Time” and “Dancehall Hero” (2013). Having collaborated with a line of high caliber Hip Hop and R&B artists such as Beyonce, Rihanna and Major Lazer.
Kartel has also been credited as an inspiration for the Dancehall-infused work of a number of hitmakers, including Drake, who has cited Kartel as being one of his “biggest inspirations”.
In 2014, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. He will be eligible for parole once he has served 35 years in jail.
Despite being imprisoned, Vybz Kartel continues to release new music prolifically, releasing over 50 new songs in 2016 alone.
