West Indies’ dashing opening batsman Chris Gayle has been ruled out of the rest of the series as he suffered a hamstring injury while attempting a single during the first ODI of the three-match series against India here on Thursday.
Chris Gayle, who was run out in the second ball of West Indies innings, was rushed to a local hospital after he hurt himself while making a desperate dive to reach his crease.
Gayle, who was run out while attempting the single, was writhing in pain after he attempted a dive in the first over off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He was stretchered off the field. The burly Jamaican was rushed to the Medical Trust Hospital, where he was detected with muscle haematoma.
Doctors who examined Gayle said that he would need two to four weeks to recover from his injury, which would mean that he is likely to be ruled out of the remainder of the three-match ODI series.
“He has to take rest for a few weeks as he has suffered a muscle haematoma,” a hospital spokesperson said.
Gayle, however, was seen limping his way through and refused to talk to the media.
