There have always been talks that the Hip Hop mogul has cheated on the “Runnin” singer‚ but both have ignored the speculation and never spoken out about it.
After the infamous fight in the lift with Solange and making a series of thinly veiled apologies to wife Beyoncé on his most recent album, the music mogul finally spelled it out in an interview with New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet posted on Wednesday (Nov 29).
He said that he had built walls because of issues from his childhood‚ which led to him shutting down and infidelity.
“The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself,” he said.
“You have to survive, so you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode, what happens? You shut down all emotions. So, even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can’t connect. In my case, like, it’s deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity,” he added.
Jay-Z hinted that they could have got divorced but he’d had therapy to help him deal with his past experiences.
“You know, most people walk away, and, like, divorce rate is like 50% or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves,” he explained.
Before he was referrred to a therapist through friends, he said that he realized he was still holding on to a lot of pain from his youth growing up in a tough neighborhood.
He hinted that therapy has helped him deeply and that he has learned from the experience.
“I grew so much from the experience.
But I think the most important thing I got is that everything is connected,” Jay-Z said.
“Every emotion is connected and it comes from somewhere. And just being aware of it. Being aware of it in everyday life puts you at such a… you’re at such an advantage.”
In 2013, rumours came out that the rapper had been cheating and then there was #elevatorgate when Solange Knowles attacked Jay-Z, while sister Beyonce stayed silent.
More recently Jay-Z’s album, 4:44, alluded to him being unfaithful.
“I apologize often womanize. Took for my child to be born. See through a woman’s eyes. Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles. Took me too long for this song, I don’t deserve you,” according to Jay-Z’s lyrics.
A year before 4:44 came out, Beyonce sang about “Becky with good hair” on her album Lemonade.
“He only want me when I’m not there/He better call Becky with the good hair,” according to Beyonce’s lyrics.
The couple had planned to do a joint album but ended up doing solo records instead.
“We were using our art almost like a therapy session. And we started making music together. And then the music she was making at that time was further along,” he explained.
“So, her album came out as opposed to the joint album that we were working on,” he added.
The celebrity couple recently welcomed twins five-month-old twins Rumi and Sir, in June and put down roots in LA, splashing out $88 million in Aug. for Bel Air mega-mansion.
