The publication revealed that the Roc Nation CEO recently became a billionaire, thus making him the first billionaire from Hip-Hop.
Jay-Z’s wealth is reported to have come from multiple ventures, not just music. His highest stream of income came from sales of his luxury brand of wine, Armand de Brignac, more popularly know as “Ace of Spade” or “Gold Bottle” which has made him $310 million. His second highest earner has been cash investments which total in companies such as Uber, which he is reported to have bought in 2013 for $2 million, which is worth over $70 million now.
Coming in at third is D’Ussé, earning him $100 million, another luxury brand of alcohol. Tying for third is his music streaming service, Tidal, which also makes $100 million. Tied for forth is his Roc Nation recording label and management company and his entire music catalog at $75 Million each.
Rounding off his diversified portfolio is his art and real estate collections, worth $70 million and $50 million respectively. It is key to note that Jay-Z is also married to the fourth richest female musician, Beyoncé. The couple has been combined billionaires for over 10 years.
It was previously believed that California rap legend, Dr. Dre, was the first billionaire from HipHop after he sold his steak in the vastly successful Beats by Dre headphone company to Apple for 3.2 Billion Dollars. The company sold for 3.2 Billion in total but Dre made a total of 700 Million from the deal, not quite making him a billionaire.
