The couple, already the parents of two (North, 4, and Saint, 18 months) and longing for a third, has hired a surrogate to help make it happen because Kardashian’s doctors strongly advised her not to go through a third pregnancy.
According to People and E! Online, unnamed sources in the know say the couple paid a surrogacy agency nearly $70,000 to find a surrogate, who will be paid about $45,000 for 10 months of carrying a pregnancy, with a bonus of $5,000 for each possible twin or triplet child.
TMZ also states that, should the pregnancy produce more than one child, the surrogate will receive an additional $5k per extra child ($5k extra for twins, $10k extra for triplets and so forth).
If the surrogate loses reproductive organs during the process, she will be paid $4k, it is reported.
With the surrogacy comes the conditions that the employed woman doesn’t smoke, drink alcohol, take drugs and not have sexual intercourse in the weeks leading up to the pregnancy.
This also includes refraining from sex for 3 weeks following embryo implantation. The surrogate is banned from hot tubs or saunas, can’t go near cat litter, won’t be allowed to apply hair dye, can only have one caffeinated beverage per day or consume raw fish.
It was not clear whether the surrogate was already pregnant.
Kardashian’s representative did not respond to a request for comment.
Kardashian, has spoken openly about her medical struggles during her pregnancies with daughter North, born in 2013, and son Saint, born in 2015, on her E! reality show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
In a recent episode, Kardashian spoke about considering surrogacy for future children with West.
The reality star has given detailed accounts on her blog about the difficulties she experienced during her two labours, and the TV show has followed her various surgeries and doctor consultations in a bid to resolve them.
“I think I always knew that surrogacy was an option, but I didn’t think it was that realistic of an option, and now I feel like that’s my reality,” Kardashian said in an April episode of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.”
The surrogacy reports come after a difficult year for the couple.
Kardashian was the victim of a robbery in Paris last October, in which millions of dollars’ worth of jewellery was stolen from her. That led her to boost security measures and to take a temporary pause from public engagements and prolific social media postings.
Late last year, West canceled a December tour and was hospitalised after an apparent mental health breakdown.
The couple have embraced a more modest social media presence over the past few months, with Kardashian occasionally posting glimpses into their family life.
On Wednesday, the reality star launched her own solo make-up line, which sold out within hours.
