Blasts Cash Money: ‘I Want Off This Label’

Lil Wayne Blasts & Cash Money Records On Twitter

Wayne’s new album, Tha Carter V, is set to hit stores Dec. 9—but on December 4th, in a series of frustrated tweets Weezy claimed that Cash Money Records and Birdman won’t let him release it. He also went on to say he feels like a “prisoner” on the label and wants out.

It’s been reported that Lil Wayne’s upcoming album, Tha Carter V, has gotten caught in a holding pattern, that’s because the rapper says it is.

In a series of tweets, Weezy criticized Cash Money – the label that has released all of his albums and is home to the Young Money imprint he founded – likening his contract to a prison sentence.

“To all my fans, I want you to know that my album won’t and hasn’t been released bekuz [label co-founder] Baby and Cash Money Records refuse to release it,” he wrote on Twitter.

“This is not my fault. I am truly and deeply sorry to all my fans but most of all to myself and my family for putting us in this situation.”

“I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain’t that easy,” he continued. “I am a prisoner and so is my creativity. Again, I am truly sorry and I don’t blame ya if ya fed up with waiting for me and this album. But thank you.”

A Cash Money representative did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

However, Lil Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant, has told TMZ that the rapper will not be leaving Cash Money and that everything is good between him and Cash Money label founder Baby.

Lil Wayne’s Manager Claims Everything Is Fine WIth Cash Money

Lil Wayne shocked the internet on Thursday after revealing his problems with longtime label Cash Money Records and how he wants off of the label as soon as possible, but Weezy’s manager is now claiming everything is fine between the two.

Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant was out clubbing when he was asked about the situation, and he says everything is fine over at Cash Money Records.

“Wayne made headlines Thursday when he ranted against Cash Money on Twitter … saying it was the label’s fault his new album wasn’t coming out yet. He ranted, “I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain’t that easy.”

“But after clubbing at Penthouse last night, Weezy’s manager, Cortez Bryant, said everything was basically sunshine and rainbows. So, was Weezy hacked? Are they just drumming up publicity?”  (TMZ)

Wayne has been a part of Cash Money since he was 11 years old and has always referred to Birdman as his “father” in terms of their close relationship. His label, Young Money Entertainment, is an imprint of Cash Money Records and in back in 2012 Weezy struck a deal with them to release his next four albums.

This is the second major artist on Cash Money to publicly air their frustration after complained about being “held hostage” by the label back in October.
