Virtual rock band Gorillaz unveiled their surreal 360 virtual reality video for new track ‘Saturnz Barz’ (Spirit House) last week and it’s already broken YouTube’s record for the biggest debut of a VR video.
The clip, which features Jamaican superstar Popcaan’s vocals, was viewed more than three million times in its first 48 hours on the channel and at the time of writing, has now notched up six million views.
“Saturnz Barz” knocks previous record holder, ‘СТРАННЫЙ’, by Russian band УСПЕШНАЯ ГРУППА that drew 1.3 million views in its first 48 hours.
The standard version of the music video is also rocking up the views on YouTube topping 15 million views in the first week.
“Saturnz Barz” also reached the top ten of the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart last month when it made it’s debut.
Gorillaz recently announced their new album Humanz, which is due for release on April 28. The album is the band’s first in six years and includes a massive list of guest artists including Grace Jones, Mavis Staples, Danny Brown and De La Soul.
Gorillaz is comprised of four animated characters 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs who rose to stardom in 2001.
