Dancehall entertainer Popcaan was fined J$25-thousand or six months in prison on Feb 17, 2016.
The “Way Up” deejay pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer at the Norman Manley International Airport, three years ago.
Popcaan, who given name is Andrae Sutherland, appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court.
During the sentencing hearing, his attorney Bert Samuels urged senior magistrate, Judith Pusey, not to record the conviction as it would affect his travels abroad to perform.
Prosecutors reported that on November 24, 2013, Popcaan was preparing to leave the island when he was stopped by the police who requested a search of his luggage.
The entertainer refused to be searched and became boisterous, using expletives to the officers.
During the dispute he used a Hennessy bottle to hit one of the policemen in the face, causing a wound to his mouth.
