Buju Banton arrived in Jamaica last night (Dec 7) after being released from a US prison at the end of a 10-year sentence for drug trafficking. His initial release date was February 2019, but was later revised to December 8, 2018.
Fans of the entertainer reportedly flocked the main entrance of Norman Manley International Airport where Buju Banton touched down. He was processed by immigration before exiting at an undisclosed section of the airport.
Several online users have since took to social media to share snaps of the “Destiny” singer as he arrived in his homeland.
In January 2009, he was arrested at his home in Florida by Drug Enforcement Agents on suspicion of conspiracy to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine. His first trial ended in a mistrial and he was found guilty after a second trial and slapped with a 10-year sentence. Banton had one month reduced from his sentence after prosecutors dropped a firearm possession charge against him.
Despite his incarceration, the deejay has managed to keep busy over the last few months, launching several ventures in anticipation of his release, including a clothing line “Everything BB,” which features t-shirts that display his image and likeness.
Buju Banton recently announced his “Long Walk To Freedom” tour which will commence next summer.
According to the singer’s management team, his first performance will most likely be in Jamaica, as they are looking to stage their own concert. However, they have remained tight-lipped on its developments.
