Vybz Kartel was hospitalized at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) on Monday (Sep 25).
The incarcerated Dancehall superstar was admitted to the facility after complaining of excruciating pains in his side since last Wednesday (Sep 20).
According to sources, the Jamaican artiste, who remained in the hospital after several days, has been treated for a kidney infection.
Kidney infections often begin with a bladder infection, and if untreated can lead to life-threatening issues. Under such circumstances, prison authorities would be required to escort the inmate to a hospital.
Vybz Kartel’s representatives told media reporters that authorities are not allowing any visitors and the deejay is under heavy police guard in a private section of the hospital.
His common-law wife, Tanesha Johnson, and his attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson, are in contact with prison officials and are getting regular updates on his condition as sources have confirmed that the deejay is currently in stable condition.
Sources close to the artist’s camp told Hype Life Magazine that his supporters are very concerned about his health and overall treatment at the GP prison.
This is not the first time Kartel has been hospitalized since his incarceration. In July 2015, he reportedly visited the doctors at the facility due to a skin inflammation.
The deejay is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
Despite being behind bars for nearly six years, his music still dominates the local and international airwaves.
The deejay is gearing up for his highly anticipated appeal trial set for February 2018. The Dancehall superstar and his fans are hoping that he will be freed when the case concludes.
