Jamaican Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel is incarcerated but clearly not silenced.
The “Worl Boss” deejay’s album, “King of the Dancehall,” which was released in June 2016, is the top selling Dancehall album of 2016.
Based on figures obtained from sales tracker Nielsen Music, Kartel’s album has sold 3,800 in the United States since its release on June 10, 2016.
The album also received stellar reviews on iTunes.
The “Fever” deejay has been imprisoned since 2011, almost 6 years ago, but managed to release an album last year, which was produced by Linton White of TJ Records.
The album debuted at number two on the Billboard Reggae Album chart.
In its first week, King of the Dancehall registered sales figures of 1,867, making it the biggest first week sales figures for a Dancehall album since fellow entertainer Beenie Man’s “Undisputed.”
Vybz Kartel is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ WIlliams.
However, Kartel’s incarceration hasn’t proved to be enough to keep him off the airwaves or out of the media.
