In recent times, there has been rumors that incarcerated Dancehall artist Vybz kartel, whose real name is Adijah Palmer, will be released on bail just in time to perform at this year’s stage show, Sting, the Greatest One Night Reggae Show on Earth.
The truth is, as the Kartel’s murder trial climaxing this week in the Home Circuit court, the deejay’s fans are very hopeful he will get released and perform at Sting.
If Vybz Kartel gets released from jail, he will be performing at Sting — according to Sting co-promoter Isiah Laing.
“If Kartel is out he will be doing Sting,” Laing told Anthony Miller of ER.
“The show is ready for him if he comes out and if he does comes out we won’t need a clash.”
When asked if Sting can afford to pay Vybz Kartel to perform, Laing said:
“Yes we can afford him.”
Back in 2011 before Kartel was arrested it was reported that the deejay was asked to perform at the Sting back in 2010. However, Kartel rejected the request after a figure he demanded to perform was not granted.
Vybz Kartel has not performed at Sting since 2009.
It was alleged that during that time leading up to the popular Sting stage show event Kartel came under a lot of harassment from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
On the night of Sting 2010, an event promoted by well known Business man Corey Todd and Vybz Kartel, titled Inclusive Saturdays, which was held at the club ‘Building’, was raided by police officers who were in search of Kartel, who luckily did not arrive at the time and didn’t bother to show up.
After the incident, things began to turn sour for Kartel — leading to his arrest and many court trials.
