Vybz Kartel is confident and ready for his upcoming appeal, which is set to commence on February 19 of next year.
His team is now ready and will take the next nine months to prepare themselves for the three-week trial as they’ll be pulling out all the stops to overturn the murder conviction, according to the “Pressure” deejay’s attorney Tom Tavares-Finson.
The defense team of the incarcerated Dancehall superstar was ordered by the court to file its grounds of appeal by the end of October and the prosecution must file its case by November.
Kartel’s legal team says there were a lot of holes in the case authorities brought against the artist including cops allegedly tampering with evidence and intimidating witnesses.
Bert Samuels, who is the lead attorney for Shawn Storm, told reporters that his team is more than confident.
“We are appealing the conviction on several grounds,” said Samuels.
“The team is more than confident that the three judges will look at the case and arguments dispassionately and deal with the information presented to them without prejudice. Because this is an appeal and not a trial, the judges are all experienced and are able to come to a decision without thinking on the reaction from the public.”
Vybz Kartel (Adidja Palmer), fellow entertainer Shawn Storm (Shawn Campbell), Kahira Jones, and Andre St John are currently serving life sentences for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. They are hoping to have their sentences overturned.
Meanwhile, the “Fever” deejay is set to release a new album ahead of his appeal.
A close source to Vybz Kartel told Hype Life Magazine that the “Worl Boss” deejay is preparing to release a new EP titled “Party” this summer. The project follows Kartel’s chart-topping “King Of The Dancehall” album, which was released last year and debuted at number two on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart.
