Vybz Kartel’s fan base has doubled since his sentence in April last year, according to Tad Dawkins.

Jamaican music producer holds that when all the controversy over dies down, he will get his place among the greats of Jamaican pop music.

Dawkins, who has produced songs by Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs and Johnny Osbourne, has distributed several albums by the incarcerated deejay through his Tad’s International Record company.

For instance, “Reggae Love Songs” which was released in June, 2014, two months after Kartel was given a 35-year prison sentence for the August, 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

“His songs touch people and they just clearly love what he sings. In time to come he will be rated in the top 10 of the all-time best Jamaican artistes,” said Tad Dawkins.

Vybz Kartel’s album, “Reggae Love Songs,” infiltrated the iTunes Reggae charts at number three and the Billboard Reggae Album chart at number eight.

Dawkins, who first met Vybz Kartel in 2009, noted that his fan base has doubled since his sentence in April last year.

“Viking (Vybz is King),” an album of new songs by the 39-year-old artiste, debuted at number three on the Billboard Reggae Album chart this week.
