If you weren’t a fan of Vybz Kartel before 2009, chances you are not familiar with the Jamaican deejay’s early 2000s look.
A throwback photograph of the former Portmore Empire head, which recently surfaced online, reveals the Dancehall superstar — before his tattoos and skin bleaching.
Today, Kartel, who is referred to as “Worl’ Boss” and has been recognized as one of genre’s most prolific and skilled lyricists credited with further popularizing Dancehall, sports a new controversial look which features braces, tattoos and lightened skin.
Before his imprisonment for murder, he rocked corn-rows.
After 2010, his appearance changed drastically, from hairstyle to complexion.
Despite being physically absent since 2011, Kartel, who rose to prominence in 2003 after a string of hits in Jamaica, continues to dominate Dancehall by releasing new music prolifically.
He will be eligible for parole once he has served a minimum of 35 years in prison. To this date, Kartel’s appearance in prison is the talk of many Dancehall fans.
