The British rapper and Wondaland singer performed solo concerts in different cities, teaming up at the end of their shows as life-sized 3D projections in what’s being called “the first hologram performance with integrated video mapping.”
Janelle rocked the stage at Quixote Studios in West Hollywood, while M.I.A. played to a packed crowd at New York’s SIR Stage 37.
During “Bad Girls,” a hologram Janelle spit a new verse alongside M.I.A., while Janelle performed “Q.U.E.E.N.” with a life-size hologram of M.I.A.
“The idea is that we teleport into each other’s show,” said M.I.A.
“There’s a show and then it goes beyond the space where you’re performing and the city where you’re performing, so that’s what’s kind of interesting about it.”
