While a man that was arrested for ganja possession was being processed, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force found a gun and 13 rounds of ammunition in his prosthetic leg on Nov 29.
The man found with the firearm is Melvinton Brown, a 56 year old from Bowen’s Gate, Mocho.
Brown was charged with possession ganja and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Cameron Powell said she did not know the accused was disabled as he stood perfectly when he was being searched by the police. The police said they found five pounds of vegetable matter that resembles ganja in his possession.
Powell said after he was brought in and was being processed, they subsequently discovered a Taurus 9mm pistol.
“We realized that he had this prosthesis and we have to remove it. When we are putting persons in custody you have to strip them down, almost to zero, because people are carrying in all kinds of contrabands and we don’t want to put our officers and fellow prisoners at risk,” Cameron Powell said.
Powell commended the officers on the discovery and said the police will leave no stones unturned after this experience.
