Incarceration contributes to Downward Trend in Crime – Peter Bunting Speculates

’s National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, recently made speculation that deejay Vybz Kartel’s incarceration has contributed to the downward trend in crime rates.

Against the background of a significant decline in major crimes in 2014, Bunting said there is reason to believe that the incarceration of popular dancehall artiste Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ has played a role in the downward trend.

He believes the incarceration of former Tivoli Gardens community leader Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke has had a similar effect.

“I have no empirical basis to prove that (Vybz Kartel’s conviction) is one of the contributing factors, but if I were to speculate, I believe it would definitely be one of the factors…Similarly to Christopher Coke… it would have been an informed speculation if I said that both would have been contributing factors,” Bunting told Loop reporters.
