A St. Catherine teacher was arrested and charged with having sex with a minor.
The case involves a student from the school where the accused teaches, where the student age limit is 12 years’ old.
The teacher was arrested on January 12, following investigations that were carried out by detectives from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), according to detectives.
Reports indicated that the teacher was slapped with several charges relating to breaches of the Sexual Offences Act, including grievous sexual assault, having sex with a person under the age of 16 years, and indecent assault.
Reports are that the accused, who teaches the complainant at a primary school in the parish, allegedly convinced the child to engage him in sexual activities on more than one occasion.
He is scheduled to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday (Jan 19) to answer to the charges laid against him.
The latest case follows closely behind reports on Wednesday that a St Thomas-based teacher was arrested and charged with having sexual intercourse with a person under the age 16 years. He too taught the complainant at school.
The accused is booked to appear in the St Thomas Parish Court on January 24, when the case will be mentioned.
The police said the two accusers’ names are currently being withheld to facilitate further investigations.
