Rygin King is in critical condition at the hospital after being shot and injured on Sunday (June 28).
The “Heavy Weight” deejay has underwent surgery earlier today.
The shooting incident, which occurred in Westmoreland, has been confirmed by the Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The 25-year-old recording artist was reportedly returning from a funeral when his vehicle was shot up by an unknown assailant.
A female who was in the vehicle, who is alleged to be Rygin King’s girlfriend, was also hit and has succumbed to her injuries. She has not yet been identified.
“The deejay’s car was shot up at about 3.15 pm. He is in critical condition. A female who was in the car died from her injuries,” police told Loop Jamaica.
A third person was also shot.
Vybz Kartel urged fans to pray for the “Monument” deejay in a post on social media.
“Dont give up youth!!! All who believe in God, send up a prayer fi Rygin King, please!” the “Tony Montana” deejay wrote beside a picture of the Rygin King alongside Chronic Law on Instagram.
Rvssian also expressly called for the recovery of the St. James-based entertainer.
“Putting good energy out there. RYGIN you will make it my bro!!!” the producer wrote on Twitter.
Rygin King, whose real name is Matthew Smith, is known for songs such as “Tuff,” “How Mi Grow,” “Legacy,” and “Star Life.”
