The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, shared their family news on Instagram Friday (Jan. 21).
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family,” the pair wrote.
She tagged her husband with a ❤️ emoji in the caption.
They did not reveal further details about the sex or name of the child.
A source close to the couple said the baby girl was born via surrogate at 27 weeks in California, where she will remain until she's healthy enough to accompany her parents home, according to DailyMail.
The insider claimed that the A-list couple had been planning to have a baby together for “quite a while,” but their busy schedules made it difficult for them.
The couple eventually contacted an agency to explore their options and were connected to a woman in Southern California, who seemed to be a good match.
“Priyanka doesn't have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby, but she is 39 now so it's not getting any easier,” the source said.
“Their busy work schedules also mean that it's difficult for them to physically be together to conceive when she is ovulating, so some time ago they went down the surrogacy route. This is the woman's fifth surrogacy. They met her and really liked her,” the source added.
Nick Jonas, 29, and Priyanka Chopra, 39, first met in 2017 and took their romance public in 2018. They were engaged after just four months of dating. The “The Matrix Resurrections” actress and the Jonas Brothers singer were married in Jodhpur, India, in late 2018 over the course of two ceremonies in five days.
In an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this month, Chopra spoke about the couple having a baby in the future but did not mention that they were already expecting.
“They're a big part of our desire for the future,” she said.
“By God's grace when it happens, it happens.”
