Buju Banton secured the number two spot on this week’s Billboard Reggae Albums Chart with his latest release, “Upside Down 2020,” his first in a decade.
The Dancehall icon’s new album “Upside Down 2020” sold 2,995 copies in its first week and debuted at number two on the chart, taking into account on-demand video and audio streams from YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and TIDAL, as well as album sales, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
The 20-track project, which featured eight of nine Buju Banton entries in the top 100 iTunes reggae charts, was released June 26 by Gargamel Music with significant support from Island Records and Roc Nation.
“Memories” featuring John Legend at 21, “Cherry Pie” featuring Pharrell at #49, “Yes Mi Friend” featuring Stephen Marley were some of the outstanding tracks from the set.
Buju Banton’s “Bless,” which hit at #10, was the top-charting song on this week’s iTunes Reggae top 100.
Buju Banton’s “Upside Down 2020” is his first since his release from US prison 19 months ago.
The album follows his 2010 “Before The Dawn”, which won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album and was his last project before he went to prison in the United States in 2011.
“Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers” by Bob Marley and the Wailers remains at number 1 for the 26th consecutive week.
“Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection” by Shaggy and “Dutty Classics Collection” by Sean Paul took the number 3 and 4, respectively. Meanwhile, “World On Fire” by the Southern California reggae band, Stick Figure landed the number 5 position.
