Jay Leno is receiving treatment at a burn hospital in Los Angeles after suffering serious injuries in a gasoline fire over the weekend.
In a release, the former “The Tonight Show” host revealed the incident, noting that he sustained burns in a fire but was expecting to recover.
“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet,” the 72-year-old TV presenter said on Monday (Nov. 14).
The left side of the US comedian’s face was burned, but Leno’s eye and ear were not severely damaged when one of his cars burst into flames at his home in Burbank, California on Saturday (Nov. 12), according to CNN.
Jay Leno is recovering at Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles. The cause and time of the fire weren’t immediately clear.
News of Jay Leno’s fire accident comes after multiple reports say he abruptly canceled a Las Vegas appearance last minute on Sunday due to a “very serious medical emergency.” He was slated to perform at the Financial Brand Forum 2022 in Las Vegas.
“His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from traveling,” an email to attendees read. “All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight.”
Jay Leno was one of America’s most-watched late-night TV hosts, attracting around 4.8 million viewers to his five nights-a-week show, NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” which he originally hosted from 1992 to 2009. After leaving the show, he was replaced by Conan O’Brien. However, Leno returned a year later when ratings dropped and remained on the show before signing off in 2014. He was replaced by Jimmy Fallon.
He began his CNBC series “Jay Leno’s Garage” in 2015 and started hosting the “You Bet Your Life” revival in 2021. He reportedly has more than 180 vehicles, and he frequently works in his Burbank garage.
