Masicka, Koffee and Dexta Daps are set to perform at this year’s staging of Reggae Sumfest.
Masicka joins a slew of Jamaican acts including Aidonia, Shenseea, Spice, Alkaline, Govana, Teejay, Ding Dong, Chronic Law, Marcy Chin, Skeng, Moyann, and Intence among others for main festival night one slated for July 22.
Meanwhile, Koffee and Dexta Daps join Beres Hammond, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Cham, Wayne Wonder, Spragga Ben, Sizzla Kalonji, Christopher Martin, and Jada Kingdom among others scheduled to perform at main festival night two on July 23.
Koffee is currently promoting her 10-track debut album, Gifted, which debuted at No. 2 on the Reggae chart on April 9 with 3,500 equivalent album units sold and streamed in the US in its first week. “Gifted” was released on March 25 through Promised Land Recordings and RCA.
Her album’s overall sales of 188K were, in fact, supported by the 18-tracklist “instant deluxe” edition which included the singer’s UK Gold-certified single “Toast,” UK Silver-certified “W” featuring Gunna, and album title track “Rapture.”
Since her arrival on the music scene, the 22-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer has gotten a good deal of label support.
“Koffee‘s success continues, it’s not gonna end in Jamaica. It’s gonna end on a global level,” John Fleckenstein, co-president of RCA told Rolling Stones in 2020 following the Jamaican singer’s Grammy win.
Masicka’s album, “438,” released last year December, was awarded Album of the Year by Irie FM’s annual Music Awards earlier this year.
The 16-track project was comprised of features from Sean Paul, Popcaan, Stefflon Don, and Dexta Daps, with production by Dunw3ll, DreDay, RazMyghty, and Mozeek Records.
Masicka was named the most-streamed Dancehall artist on Audiomack last month, beating Jahmiel, Popcaan, Chronic Law, and Alkaline, respectively.
He is now promoting his new single, “History,” which has racked up 3.4m views on the music video via YouTube since its release on April 3.
Dexta Daps, born Louis Grandison, is in high demand for local and overseas gigs, as event organizers can guarantee a full house once the “Call Me If” singer is booked.
The Seaview Gardens native dropped his 2020 album, “Vent,” with features from Beenie Man, Spice, Tarrus Riley, Ikaya, Chronic Law, Friyie, Blakkman and Angel Doolas. The following year, he released “Vent” album deluxe version, with 16 additional tracks, including features from Davido, Tory Lanez, Louie Culture and Pressure Busspipe.
Music fans can expect an energetic performance from Dexta Daps at Reggae Sumfest 2022.
This year marks the first live staging of Reggae Sumfest after it was halted due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 Reggae Sumfest virtual edition dubbed “A Taste of Reggae Sumfest,” which featured Gyptian, Freddie Mcgregor, Tarrus Riley, Maxi Priest, Koffee, Chronic Law, Marcy Chin, Daddy1, Ding Dong, Teejay, Shenseea, Konhens, Agent Sasco among others, was streamed live on YouTube for free.
Reggae Sumfest dubbed the “Greatest Reggae Show on Earth” returns to Catherine Hall, Montego after being affected by curtailment measures put in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
The main festival takes place on Friday (July 22) and Saturday (July 23).
