Reggae singer, Anthony Cruz, is devastated following the murder of his 15-year-old daughter, Shanice Smith.
News broke that the Jamaican entertainer’s 15-year-old daughter and her mother had been slaughtered inside their Sunrise, Fort Lauderdale home by a crazed man on Monday, February 13.
“I can’t believe them kill my one and only daughter in Fort Lauderdale,” Anthony Cruz posted on his Facebook account.
Kevin Kemoy Nelson, 32, is facing two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of 40-year-old Karen Lyle and her Shanice Smith.
Sunrise police said someone in an apartment called 911 to report gunshots. It is reported that the police called back the number and a man answered the telephone and told police, “I’m here.”
“I’m the person with the gun,” Nelson said in the call, according to the report.
When the operator asked where the victims were, Nelson replied “dead,” the report said.
The call was disconnected and police responded to the home, where officers made contact with Nelson.
He surrendered peacefully to the police after a lengthy standoff.
According to reports, several neighbours said Nelson and Lyle often argued outside their apartment and cops were called there numerous times for domestic complaints in the past year.
Nelson is a Jamaican who hails from Montego Bay, St James and has prior run ins with law enforcement in South Florida for domestic violence after he assaulted his wife.
Anthony Cruz named his independent record label Shan-Shan after his daughter, Shanice.
