Tekashi 6ix9ine was reportedly arrested and booked on an outstanding warrant on Wednesday (July 11).
The American rapper won’t be leaving the jailhouse anytime soon, according to sources.
A judge denied the Brooklyn native bail, citing that he was a flight risk, TMZ reports.
The “GUMMO” rapper was reportedly arrested in connection with an incident in which he allegedly choked a teenager at a mall in Texas.
His attorneys reportedly pleaded for the judge to release him on bail in a court hearing on Thursday (July 12), claiming he had learned his lesson while briefly sitting behind bars. He also stated that he needed to be released in order to support his mother and family, but the judge didn’t seem to be buying it.
The judge said that Tekashi has recently been traveling in Europe and didn’t appear to be taking his case seriously. Additionally, the “DIRTY” artist accepted a guilty plea deal in his 2015 child sex case, which requires him to be on his best behavior. Given his past history of multiple arrests and run-ins with the law, the judge wasn’t budging.
The Brooklyn native is currently being held at Rikers Island and has reportedly been transferred to the Contagious Disease Unit for his own safety.
According to TMZ, Tekashi 6ix9ine’s status as a celebrity has forced authorities to transfer him to the Contagious Disease Unit. Law enforcement sources said that he’ll be inside the 140-cell portion of the prison which is typically meant for inmates who are the battling illnesses. It’s also used for celebrities who can’t be in general population, for their own safety and 6ix9ine apparently falls in that category.
Tekashi 6ix9ine is reportedly being held in isolation. The rapper will have absolutely no contact with any other inmates even during his one hour of recreation. The rapper will only be able to have contact with the correctional officers.
Tekashi69 will reportedly be locked up until his next hearing and will likely be released by July 20.
