As viewers learned, some recent upsetting news added an extra level of connection to the material, bringing her to tears during rehearsals.

Nevertheless, Tessanne Chin blew the competition away on The Voice on Monday night with a stunning performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

The 28-year-old Jamaican powerhouse showed why she’s considered the frontrunner to win season five of the hit NBC show after singing the classic ballad amid mysterious personal circumstances.

Tessanne was going through some tough personal issues during rehearsals, as she was seen getting upset.

However, it wasn’t fully explained what was going on with Tessanne – who will face competition from teenager Jacquie Lee after she also delivered an excellent performance.

She was seen with the other Team Adam members at his house having breakfast.

“Good eggs, Adam,” she said as she tucked in.

“I can’t cook anything else,” he confessed.

“You are just a charismatic human being with so much love in your heart,” Adam told her.

“I am so ready to put my all into this and treat this song as if it was the last song because I want it to be that meaningful,” she said.

Adam chose the Simon & Garfunkel song for her – saying it was the ‘ultimate platform’ for her. She burst into tears as she rehearsed, and Adam seemed close to crying, too.

“Need a hug?” he asked her before embracing her.

“Emotions are definitely running high,” she said. “I think I have the inspiration. I can see the finish line. I have to deliver it.”

Chin admits there was a certain trepidation regarding the bare approach to the song, which coach Adam Levine was insistent about.

“So for me, I just made a decision to just go there and even if it wasn’t technically the best performance to give, I can’t deny what was going on in here,” she says with her hand over her heart.

“And most importantly, I wanted it to end on a hopeful note because ultimately, even though the song, in the beginning it may be a little bit more ‘When you’re weary,’ I wanted it to end on ‘Sail on and shine. Your dreams are coming through.’ There’s always a silver lining, no matter what you’re going through in life. “

“I mean, classic example, I found out the very next day after hearing [the bad news] that one of my girlfriends who’s been trying for a while is finally pregnant. So there’s always, always a silver lining to everything in life, you know? So, I wanted that to be not just about the emotion and whatever … but there’s hope.”

Adam Levine gave Tessanne a hug during rehearsals as she dealth with an unknown personal issue.
