Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt made a quiet return to his homeland following a very controversial trip to England where he was for the last few days after completing history at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
The low-profile arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport on Monday, August 29, was in stark contrast to the electric and storied performances in Rio de Janeiro, where Bolt accomplished the unprecedented “triple-triple”.
Decked in white t-shirt, black trousers and black cap, the nine-time Olympic Games gold medallist ignored an interview request while quickly exiting the airport.
However, according to the Jamaica Observer, as people in the waiting area recognized the world record holder and began to shout his name, he shook off the poker face, acknowledged the praises with the odd smile, and even allowed a handful of hasty selfie photographs to be taken with cellphone cameras.
The multiple World Championships gold medal winner stuck around long enough for his luggage to be packed into the back of a black Toyota Tundra pick-up truck.
The sprint ace then hopped into a black Range Rover SUV driven by his executive manager and close friend Nugent Walker, and had a final chuckle at something a fan said before being raced away.
Bolt imperiously cantered to victories in the 100-metre, 200m and 4x100m events to reaffirm his status as track and field’s greatest athlete.
While on the current international break, Liverpool FC player Daniel Sturridge shared an image of himself with the Jamaican sprinter among some female friends via Instagram.
The picture shows a tired-looking, unconcerned Bolt wearing a hat from Sturridge’s new clothing range, Dstudgehats.
The afterglow of the Rio Olympics is just beginning to wear off, as life gets back to normal and “back to school” preparations begin in Jamaica. Nevertheless, the country is still enjoying and discussing the exploits of its track athletes, and in particular their iconic sprinter Usain Bolt.
Throughout the second week of the games, Jamaican social media was filled with celebratory tweets and photographs, focusing in particular on the “GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time) Usain Bolt.
Almost immediately afterwards, UK tabloids threatened to spoil the party by sharing photographs and video of Bolt partying with girls at a nightclub and then alleged selfies (possibly photoshopped) of him in bed with another girl in Rio—all allegedly on his birthday night.
In case you missed it, Usain was reportedly pictured in bed with 20-year-old Brazilian student Jady Duarte after his 30th birthday party in Rio.
This was followed by photos showing the sprinter dancing with and allegedly kissing another girl in Brazil, and out with a group of women in London.
Instead of freaking out, Bolt’s ‘First Lady’, Kasi Bennett has kept her cool throughout the entire situation.
