Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has some damage control to do after leaked video surfaced showing him knocking out his fiancee, who is now said to be his wife.
This is what a two game suspension looks like, Ray Rice delivering a a crushing punch to his fiancee’s face, knocking her out cold, and TMZ Sports has the shocking video.
TMZ released the video on Monday showing Rice and his wife Janay Palmer getting into a heated argument before going inside an elevator.
The graphic video footage shows Ray Rice punching Palmer inside the closed elevator knocking her out cold.
When the elevator stopped he then dragged her unconscious body out and that’s when a passerby saw what was going on.
N.F.L. Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Ray Rice for two games, but fans of the sports are saying that is not enough given the video evidence.
Rice was released by the Baltimore Ravens and subsequently suspended indefinitely by the NFL after the assault video leaked via TMZ on Monday.
Baltimore Ravens has terminated its contract with Ray Rice as a result of the leaked video.
The Ravens have stood firmly behind Rice ever since his arrest in February, including John Harbaugh saying Rice’s two-game suspension should be a good lesson for the children.
Rice is still just 27 years old, and will presumably need to apply for reinstatement from the NFL should another team pick him up.
Additional details from the night of Ray Rice’s assault on his then-fiancee Janay Palmer have been made available in a new report from ESPN.
These details include Rice spitting on the victim before hitting her and that Rice knew he was going to be arrested.
Former and current security staffers at an Atlantic City hotel told ESPN’s Outside the Lines that Rice said his now-wife had just been drinking:
“The first thing he [Rice] said is, ‘She’s intoxicated. She drank too much. I’m just trying to get her to the room,'” one staffer said.
“When she regained consciousness she said, ‘How could you do this to me? I’m the mother of your kid,'” that same staffer told “Outside the Lines.”
With his fiancée still groggy, Rice dialed somebody on his cellphone and said, “I’m getting arrested tonight,” the staffer said. Police arrived in 10 to 15 minutes.
The report adds that there was no visible sign of injury on Palmer’s face or head due to hair covering the area. There was also no blood on the elevator railing or anywhere on the floor.
