Williams looked elated when Justice Lennox Campbell told him he was free to go last Thursday after an 11-member panel of jurors deemed him not guilty of the beating death of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams but he has still not seen the outside world after cops informed him that he would be charged for a murder which took place in Gregory Park, St Catherine almost a year before Williams was killed.
A relative of the accused man contacted the Jamaica Observer and complained that the police were being vindictive and had no reason to lay further charges against Williams.
“Them just don’t want to see him free. Everybody know him never have nothing to do with Lizard killing. That’s why the jury let him go. Why dem a persecute the youth so? It no right man,” the relative said.
A police source said that Williams was charged with murder on January 29 and will face the court on April 8.
An Observer source said that Williams is not being housed at the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre where Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, Shawn ‘Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John are locked up until their sentencing on March 27.
All three were found guilty of Lizard’s murder and face the possibility of at least 20 years in prison before being eligible for parole.
Their trial was the longest in Jamaica’s legal history as it lasted for 65 days.
