Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney, Valerie Neita-Robertson told the Appeals Court on Wednesday (July 18) that the “Worl Boss” deejay could not have been at a Havendale, St Andrew house where Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams was killed as Kartel was at a Corporate Area hospital when the alleged murder was committed.
During the appeal case hearing, the lawyer stated that the Dancehall entertainer arrived at a Corporate Area hospital at 7:48 pm on the same day as the incident.
“It would mean that Mr Palmer would not be at the house when this (the murder) happened,” the Queens Counsel told the court.
The attorney argued that this information challenges the accuracy of cell tower information that was used during the entertainer’s 2014 murder trial.
Police Inspector Warren Williams, who heads the police cyber crimes unit, had given evidence that cell tower information placed Kartel at the Havendale house at 7:52 p.m.
However, Neita Robertson cited evidence from the main prosecution witness that he arrived at the house at 8:00 p.m. and that after the events he witnessed at the house, he took Kartel to the hospital close to 9:00 p.m.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was convicted in April 2014, along with his protégé, Shawn Storm, real name Shawn Campbell, as well as Kahira Jones and Andre St John for killing Williams.
They were all given the mandatory life sentence with Kartel ordered to serve 35 years before he is eligible for parole. Campbell, Jones and St John were ordered to each serve 25 years before they become eligible for parole.
